Elegance of a ditch
We look for beauty from vanishing untouched nature. We give value to nature with our eyes and seek for something breathtaking, something big, predefined beauty and value. The beauty of nature is all around us, even close by and unnoticeable, vanishing and fleeting. In nature, everything has its place, its own personality and its own story.
Elegance of a Ditch exhibition celebrates nature’s imperceptible beauty in ditches, roadsides, banks of ponds and wastelands. These burst with life, seizing the moment, and radiate life’s fleeting elegance. With my photographs I want to give my subjects a possibility to be seen.
Exhibition features various twigs, stalks and leaves, some of which are already withered and decayed, which many might consider to be trash. But they are much more, they are life in all its beauty and roughness.
Exhibiotioned artworks
The artworks are part of a larger series, of which 9 are now on display. The photographs in the exhibition were taken between 2015 and 2021 and printed between 2023 and 2025.
The artworks are printed on archival quality Hahnemühle FineArt Photo paper and mounted on Dibond. The prints are framed in a wooden display case frame with museum glass that filters UV radiation and reduces reflections.
The artworks are printed and framed by Dialab, Finland´s leading Hahnemuhle certified print studio.

About the artist
Kati Kalkamo (s. 1978) is a photographic artist based in Rymättylä (Naantali), Finland. She is primarily self-taught photographer and she got her enthusiasm for photography from her father. She has photographed for over 25 years.
Kalkamo’s photographs are sold by plainpicture photo agency. She is a member of Co-operative Action of Culture Turku, and has participated in three group exhibitions of Co-operative Action of Culture Turku.
