Artist Statement – photographer Kati Kalkamo
For me photography is a form of storytelling. I’m having a conversation with the subject and I aim to give voice to my subjects. Every photograph I take is an interpretation of the reality, reflection of my self.
My art consists of portraits of nature and details in landscape. I search for personalities in nature that speak to me. I don’t try to capture reality, just the emotions the subject evokes in me.
My greatest passion is empowering nature photography, I also combine text, such as quotations, with my work. I tell about nature’s uniqueness, frailty and evanescence.
Photography is my love story to the world and my way to see the world deeper. It helps me focus and to appreciate life and all the little details.
I want to speak for nature’s intrinsic value and imperceptible beauty and to increase the appreciation of nature with my photographs. Nature gives strength and perspective to life. We are part of nature. Diverse and healthy nature is also an investment to our own well-being.
