Power of growth

When we didn't waste our time waiting. Photographer Kati Kalkamo.
When we didn’t waste our time waiting, 2017, Isle of Ruissalo. Photographer Kati Kalkamo.

My cooperative, Co-operative Action of Culture Turku, celebrates 20 years this year.  Cooperative honours the 20th anniversary with a series of exhibitions. The first one, The Power of Growth, is now running at the Botanical Garden of the Univesity of Turku.

I’m taking part of this exhibition with three of my works. These are all photographed at the Isle of Ruissalo and they tell a story of inner strength, growth, circle of life and of letting go.

The exhibition is open until 29.4.2017, including Easter. Welcome to explore the exhibition!

Beauty of imperfection

Wilted plant leaves. Photographer Kati Kalkamo.

I love the vast landscapes and majestic views, these give perspective to one’s own life. But what really makes me tick, is the beauty of imperfection and fleeting time. Nothing compares to finding beauty in ordinary and plain sights and details. You can find me most enthusiastic with my camera in the front of wilted plants, twigs and seemingly insignificant debris and trash. These keep me grounded, keep me in the present and accepting and rejoicing the everlasting change.

Imagination of ice

Ice formations - Photographer Kati Kalkamo
Imaginative ice formations. December 2015.

This winter has been moody in Southwest Finland. The weather has been constantly changing. Temperatures have been mostly mild which lead to short period of supporting ice cover. However, at the same time this winter has been great to enjoy nature’s own art form of imaginative and inspiring ice formations.

Now only memories remain from ice and photographs that support the memories.
